An investor/owner of the building wants me to manage coffee shop. Need advice.?
Hello all,
There is an existing coffee shop in a business plaza. The coffee shop, although successful was closed by the owners due to personal reasons. The owner of the business plaza and now the coffee shop wants me to manage it with the future option to buy. I roast coffee and know a lot about it yet, I have never managed a retail store. I am no stranger to business and am sure I have the capacity to run it. A close friend of mine is a chef and has helped open restaurants. He has offered to work with me. I have talked to people locally and they are all for opening a coffee shop. The area is a rich yet small community.
I am seriously considering his offer to manage the store. I would love people’s advice on opening a coffee shop. What are your experiences? What would you avoid? etc…

There are many aspects to running a successful food business. Some of them include the management of inventory (having enough to do the job but not too much that you are carrying excess inventory. Besides having good coffee, an important aspect of a good coffee shop is a good atmosphere. Comfortable chairs, a mix of tables and armchairs, clean restrooms, the availability of reading materials. It sounds like you have the help and the business knowledge you need to make a go of it. Do it!
