First, do some research – go to Starbucks, Costa etc – and make sure you don’t do anything that looks like them! THey are all tacky enough. Why not go for something eastern/victorian – dark reds and greens, dark wood

But do you want a casual drop-in place, or do you want to go for something more stylish – serving the very best gourmet coffee you can get? Your answer will affect our responses.

But good for you!

As far as the name goes, I wouldn’t use "Star", or "Bucks", or any combination of the letters in it. In fact, I would avoid a nine letter name altogether. Better translate "Starbucks" into every known human language and avoid any similarities there as well.

Then get a lawyer cause they’ll probably sue anyway if you become remotely successful.

If you open a coffee shop do something in a college area, college kids would be you best bet. Keep it open 24 hours a day. Make your shop much different than any other coffee shop in your area, go and sit at each coffee shop that you can go to sit and study what they have done and you try to top them.
Compitition is a good thing but you must always raise above them. Keep your eyes open at all time at what they are doing new.
Do alot of research

well i have a great idea, but u see the problem is that i am openning a coffe shop this November, and giving it for my sister, as a birthday present. but i suggest you don’t have the place croweded up, so u feel as if you are sitting on the person’s lap whom is sitting next to you. your chairs must be comfortable, and the tables hight must be compatable with the chairs. your decoration, you don’t want the colors too bright, it will vex your custumers, and you don’t want it to be dull, as if it is a old fokes insitution. you must have a good comfortable menu for reading with great stuff to eat and drink. ur location must be on a semi-main road, so u have some costemers, if it is on a highway people are too fast to notice you, and if you are on an "insie" street no one would even know that you opened; however if it is on a semi-main road people could pick up their latte’ on their way to work. i say u must put in a stero system to keep ur coustemers enjoying their time, but you don’t want rock music. i say it would be a great idea if you have a wireless acess piont with internet, so students may bring their laptops and work online their, for the accsess point brig the G model not i repeat NOT THE B. and for prices, don’t make everything soo expencive, u know young kids when they stick to something they want it badly, and would ay their allonce on it.

you have to know who is your target market. if you have a small kitchen, i would suggest that its better to order pre sliced cakes and pastries…it would save you more time and money..just do a very nice presentation to it and invest on a nice display showcase.
