I want to open my own coffee shop? What to do in College?
What degree should I get? Classes to take? Good Colleges Online?
What do I do to start my own coffee shop?
Also how much money would it costs to get this up and running?
Any Info on any of this would be AMAZING!
You don’t need a special degree to run a coffee shop. A degree in business would definitely help, but it’s not worth spending the money or time to get it.
Anyway, here’s what you need to be ready to pay for:
-Renting property. You will obviously need a building to run your coffee shop.
-Coffee machine. These can cost thousands.
-Furniture(chairs, tables, booths, etc.)
-The actual food- Dishes, cups, silverware.
I also wanted to start a coffee/donut shop, since pretty much everybody drinks coffee. Good luck, I hope you make it.

Get a general business degree since you will be doing all aspects of the job until this endeavor grows large enough to pay an accountant etc. You would probably get more out of working for a shop first than going to class. But don’t let that discourage you from an education. You’ll want a degree so you can have a decent Plan B.

what you do need is a working knowledge of the products you are going to sell, a list of suppliers, costs, and a good business plan
The costs to get it up and running depends on where you live, how much rent and rates you will pay, also fixtures and fittings, healthy and safety certificates, food handling and food hygiene certificates, insurance, electricity, marketing and advertising and more

I didn’t know you need a degree to have your own business. Just joking. You don’t need a degree to start your own business, but of course, you will need to learn about coffee and F&B service.

I would suggest you go work in a coffee shop for a year or more in order to understand how this type of business works. As a small business owner, I know how hard it is to run a business. I have a Business Management degree and I did not know all of the intricacies of running my business until I worked for several years under the previous owner.
As a minimum you are going to need between $50,000 and $75,000 dollars in the bank to start your business. You have rent deposits, electric service deposits, insurance deposits, tenant improvements that all must be paid for upfront before you open your doors.
Starting a business sounds like a good idea and it is if you are ready for it. Most people however fail within 12 months and end up with about $60,000 in debt.
Good Luck
